Lily Langham's garden sits on 5 acres on a hill overlooking bush and farmland, about 100km north-west of Melbourne. It has views to Lalgambook (Mt Franklin) and Mt Alexander.
The garden is both creative outlet and inspiration for Lily’s artwork - mini sculptures based on plants and creatures found in her garden.
“I studied fine arts and sculpture at uni and while I was studying I worked for my aunt, who’s a garden designer.” Lily was already plant-wise - she “grew up in a garden”, thanks to her mother, an avid gardener who, at 86, still runs a stunning garden. Experiencing garden ...

Weeding is meditative. I’m ridding my lawn of clover by hand. I drown the grass with water and reach down and remove long stems by the root. I go into aglow state and before I know it one hour has gone by. I try not to use chemicals. First of all, they hardly work or they’re really slow. I like the look of the immediate improvement. Is black eyed Susan’s a WEED?

Wonderful to know your background story. I lived on Bribie Island some years back. As a keen Victorian gardener, I had to learn a whole new way of growing with a sub tropical climate. Had lots of failures, but eventually got it together. Now I’m back in Victoria and in my “comfort zone”, but I miss the bananas, paw-paws and mangoes in the back yard! 😎 Love your enthusiasm and down to earth advice. Blessings 🐸🦋🎶

The railway should encourage everyone to plant out alongside track...instead of dumping rust, track items, and large mounds of railway track gravel just dumped in mounds, also occasionally the railways even pull out plantings. We should not have to ask it should be mandatory, esp in view of all the railway works being done ..

I have exactly that same pot at home..... useless thing, it is. Always getting the drain hole blocked and drowning plants in it. Then the potting mix gets all hydrophobic and dries any plants out that way. I now have it upended and half buried behind a shady tree in the garden for the little frogs to hide in.
